Sunchoke Relish
$8.00
Usually just called “Artichoke Relish” by Southerners, sunchokes are the star ingredient in our
tangy, crunchy relish from the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Our relish is based on a 100-year-old recipe, yet we scale back the sugar from the original version. It’s a tangy
relish made from Jerusalem artichokes, peppers, onions and turmeric.
What’s a sunchoke? Also known as a Jerusalem Artichoke, it’s the knobby tuber of a flower in the aster family, originally cultivated by Native Americans. They’re hearty, grow beautifully in the Pacific Northwest and have a slightly sweet and nutty flavor when eaten raw.
Want some ideas of how to use your relish? We love it straight out of the jar, but also try it whenever you might use pickles or capers. Here are some more suggestions:
- Pair with sharp cheddar cheese and crackers as an appetizer
- Chop finely and mix into deviled eggs, egg salad, and potato salad instead of mustard for tang and a great crunch
- As part of a charcuterie plate at your next cocktail party
- Use as a condiment on sandwiches; it’s a delightful addition to tuna salad and grilled cheese
- Combine with 1/2 sour cream and 1/2 mayo, a little chopped celery and a shot of Worcestershire. Serve with salmon or any white fish as an amazing tartar sauce
- Take to a cookout and use on hamburgers, hot dogs and sausages
